Prophecies in the Old Testament weren’t accurate. Prophets were classified according to the magnitude of the revelation of Christ they prophesied. So we had major Prophets (who wrote a lot about Christ) and minor prophets.

  1. Prophets in the Old Testament spoke in parables, types and shadows. They themselves hardly understood what they said.
  2. Prophets in the Old Testament never had the indwelling of the Spirit, but temporary visitations. So you read stuff like; I was in the Spirit, the word of the Lord came to me, the hand of the Lord came upon me, I was carried away in the Spirit… Basically, “touch and go” experiences.
  3. Old Testament prophets weren’t born again. Only the new creations of God have access to the full revelation (epignosis) of Christ.

This is my end point; and this will hit a lot of nerves. Prophecy isn’t about phone numbers, what you ate last night, who killed your Grandpa, your street address, your names, spelling out your problems et al. Familiar spirits are masters of that (1 Samuel 28:7-8; Acts 16:16). Evil spirits know things too.

Prophecy as it should be… Prophecy in the New Testament, is for edification, exhortation and comfort (1 Corinthians 14:3). Basically, prophecy is the revelation of the person of Christ.

Revelations 19:10; The Spirit of prophecy gives witness/testimony to Jesus. Not Satan, or the works of darkness.

1 Corinthians 12:3; The Lordship of Jesus is the purpose of Speaking by the Spirit. When Satan is glorified and people are scared, that’s not prophecy.

1 John 2:22; 4:3; 2 John 1:7; Again, the emphasis of prophecy is Christ. His humanity (signifying that He was a man on earth and He died for sin), and His Lordship (signifying that He is the Christ and He’s glorified now at the right hand of the Father).

P.s: In Acts 16:17; for many days that girl was declaring that the Apostles were servants of God; showing them the way of salvation. Cool. But why didn’t she receive Christ if she knew this? The spirit in her acknowledged the facts but rejected Christ (the truth). She was a business woman and not a prophet(ess), because her aim was to use private information to make money for her Bosses. Declaring private information isn’t prophecy. Prophecy is the revelation (epignosis) of the person and Lordship of Christ. Prophecy edifies, exhorts and comforts us. We are not afraid when we receive the revelation of Christ in prophecy.

You’re Blessed.
