Amidst rumors of the election shift, the Independent National Electoral Commission has stated that it has not yet arrived at a decision as to whether to shift or continue the elections as planned.
Spokesperson for the INEC chairman, Kayode Idown, told Premium Times a while minutes ago.
In the past week, the Nigerian government and the PDP has been calling for a shift in the poll date, citing various reasons for its justification. While INEC has insisted that it is able to conduct the elections fairly given current circumstances, the Council of State meeting prompted INEC’s consultation meeting today, at the end of which it would address a press conference to announce its decision.
Responding to the AP report, Kayode said (in hushed tones, as the INEC consultation was ongoing): “Nothing like that (has been) decided by INEC yet.”
