MEN WITH EAGLES’ EYES: WITNESSING IN THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

rev adepoju“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going” Eccl. 9:10 (NKJV)

Sight is one of the unique qualities of an Eagle. Its perception is second to none. Its eyes is among the strongest in the animal kingdom; four to eight times stronger than an average human eyes. While descending on prey, its ocular muscles adjusts the curvature of the eyeballs to facilitate sharp focus and accurate perception throughout the approach and the attack. Eagle’s eyes is larger in size than the brain by weight. Colour vision with resolution and clarity are the most prominent features of its eyes. Animals or fishes are spotted two miles away by an Eagle. While man sees three basic colours, an Eagle sees five. Enormous nature of leaders’ task necessitates men with such eyes. Discerning, focused, and achieving. They are multidimensional at heart and in nature. They are purposeful workers.

Lifestyle of men with Eagle’s eyes is characterized with service. Attached status is irrelevant. Fulfillment, to them, is not generated from the feeling of others but their passion. Superiority or inferiority complex has become their conquest. They are contented at being low and lowly. Though regarded as irrelevant by the society, they are conscious of their destiny. Without them, purposeful leaders are far from reaching their goals. They are overwhelmingly happy at getting their task done regardless of the time frame. They appear in the nick of time and leave the scene before they are noticed. Discerning as they are, they never take credit for an attained success. Glean wisdom from Kish’s servant.

5 When they had come to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant who was with him, “Come let us return, lest my father cease caring about the donkeys and become worried about us.” 6 And he said to him, ”Look now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honourable man; all that he says surely comes to pass. So let us go there; perhaps he can show us the way that we should go.” 1 Sam. 9:5-6 (NKJV)

The above passage is an example for our consideration. A focused servant. Originally he was Kish’s, Saul’s father’s slave, but in our text he is addressed after Saul. What a humble man! He wasn’t ashamed to be slave of the son, whose father he is serving. Reading the four preceding verses of the text, Saul and the servant had been on the search for the donkeys for three days. When the Kish’s heir was weary and had given up hope on the search, the slave didn’t. He persevered. That is the grace of having men with Eagle’s eyes. They don’t give up in the face of trial. They are not frustrated even when life throws frustration at them. He had journeyed the jungle with his Lord yet, his desire was the result. Despite the difference in their statuses he surpasses his master in knowledge and understanding. He channeled him towards activating his destiny as the first king in Israel.

Maids, slaves, messengers, and the unlettered, I challenge you to be optimistic about yourselves. Nothing demoralizes man like lack of self-worth. Lowly as you are, someone is in dare need of you. Your service earns the fellow his own fulfillment. Feeling of worthlessness puts those who you are to bless with your life into perpetual bondage. The storms you can weather, they can’t. There is a clear distinction in the processes which God has taken you through. It is his deliberate act based on the fact that you are not achieving the same end result for him. The Message Bible translation of 1 Samuel 9:6 reads: He replied, “Not so fast. There is a Holy man in this town. He carries a lot of weight around here. What he says is always right on the mark. Maybe he can tell us where to go.” That was the servant’s response to his master, Saul when he was set to give up on his search for the donkeys.

The phrase not so fast presupposes the servant’s enduring nature. He could go father even after a three day journey in the jungle. Saul wasn’t wired for that but the servant was. When occasion called for such an exercise Saul would’ve failed except for the servant. Also, the servant’s description of the man of God to his master is compelling. “…He carries a lot of weight around here…” What an encouragement! The statement puts pressure in the master to want to see who this man of God is even when he was completely worn-out in the wilderness. That is the kind of the task you can do which your boss may not be able to. By what you’ve experienced in the hard times, your message of possibility can change your master’s impossibility mindset. You are not inferior! King loses his honour if he serves as the gate keeper of his own palace or drives himself to official functions. Therefore, his gatekeeper or driver is not inferior to him. He is simply rendering the service that has been mapped out for him by God.

Men with Eagle’s eyes are not only encouragers, they are also watchmen. Their calling is helping others get their destinies fulfilled. They safeguard others from costly assumptions which could terminate them from their utmost purpose in life. The irony is that most apex leaders often discard these men at the glimpse of their future. Divine acceptability was never Saul’s problem from the inception. He was a chosen vessel in God’s hand. The issue with him was the neglect of his ordained sight; the man who journeyed with him for three days in the desert. The same sight who was his link to Samuel the prophet. Such a man deserves special treatment. He ought to be Saul’s confidant. But nothing was said about him after Saul’s coronation.

Imagine a man whose strength and courage carried another on a three day journey in the wilderness. He could instill patience in Saul in order to wait for Samuel’s arrival at the altar of sacrifice. Unfortunately, he was dumped at the slaves’ lodge after being used. Ever since then, no one was qualified to persuade, pacify, encourage and caution Saul. Whatever he desired, he did. He was a hasty person. He would’ve rushed home to his father while searching for the donkeys but for the servant. The fox, destiny destroyer that the servant quieted in the wilderness resurfaced in the palace but the qualified warrior has been camped in the slaves’ lodge. Pride wasn’t the cause of Saul’s fall, haste was.

The song is the same of many of the children born with silver spoon in their mouth. Their parents’ maids and servants are rags. With them filth can be cleaned. They are the shoppers, the cooks, the waiters, and the guards. They deserve no honour. They move from one assignment to the other. Interestingly still, many of these so called maids and servants are age mates of the parents of these spoilt children. Affluence beclouds them from been exposed to various trainings that will shape their destinies in life. Common meal, many of them cannot cook. No knowledge of any domestic work. Many end up in divorce while many more have no bearing in life.

If for whatever reason the parents die young, they have no hope of surviving. Those who fate has brought their ways as helpers of destiny have been discarded. I hope this will serve as an eye-opener for the high-class people. Not all maids or servants are worthless. Some are constrained; others are divinely ordained by God for a specific task. Whatever the case may be, the poor have the same breath as the rich. The same God is the father of all. If a donkey could speak in human voice, God can use a lunatic to achieve his purpose.

Saul’s life would’ve been cut short but for an eye. Following his rejection as the king of Israel, an evil spirit from the Lord came upon him. The needed cure wasn’t discoverable but by a servant.  But the spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and a distressing spirit from the LORD troubled him. 15 And Saul’s servants said to him, “Surely, a distressing spirit from God is troubling you. 16 Let our master now command your servants, who are before you, to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp. And it shall be that he will play it with his hand when the distressing spirit from God is upon you, and you shall be well.” 17 So Saul said to his servants, “Provide me now a man who can play well, and bring him to me.” 18 Then one of the servants answered and said, “Look, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemites, who is skillful in playing, a mighty man of valour, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and the LORD is with him.”

Saul’s servants discerning spirit is worthy of note. He would’ve been wrongly diagnosed and treated except for the servants. They were accurate in the spirit though slaves. No medical doctor could diagnose what Saul’s problem was; only these men caught the revelation. Leaders ought to tremble at the fact that no man is useless upon whom God’s spirit is. Why will servants discern the master’s need if not that they are divinely positioned for his breakthrough? But many of such men on the contrary are being mistreated by the so called masters. I have witnessed drivers being offered separate seat by their bosses while attending functions. Many at times they are forgotten while the boss wine and dine. They are expected to resume to work at seven in the morning at the expense of their own family, and no definite closing time. To such bosses their servants amount to nothing in life. Who knows whether the fulfillment of the boss’ destiny is tied to the servant being maltreated?

Diagnosis of an ailment is not as important as the cure. Of all Saul’s servants, one provided the needed cure. His record is put straight in verse 18 of 1 Sam 16. He said, “…Look, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a mighty man of falour, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and the LORD is with him.” What a fulfilled life and ministry! The beginning word “look” reveals his boldness. It takes a bold and fearless servant to address his master that way. It is a word used while addressing mates not the superior. Also, the expression is in its past participle form …I have seen… This implies that he may be slave, but he is an authority. He is a master. He had mastered a course of study. He had X-rayed David and convinced that he was the only cure his boss needed. His study was so thorough and meticulous that he could see six qualities in David. What an eye!

How this servant came about his discovery amazes me. He was a palace attendant while David was a shepherd. The two of them live apart yet, he had seen David ahead of the king’s need. Location is irrelevant to men with Eagle’s eyes. They see from afar off what others cannot see even when they are close to the object. Like an Eagle, they can be in the sky and yet see the fish at the depth of the sea. They are studious, diligent, and quiet. They are not noticeable yet, they are conscious of their mission. Do you notice that after introducing David, nothing is said of the servant again? His task is done. He finished the course. He accomplished his purpose of serving the king. He is fulfilled. He could die. He was sure of his trophy. His net caught a big fish. He was not an aide to a mere man but the king. What a life! Every leader needs such men.

Men with Eagles’ eyes are transgender in nature. They are not equally age-bound. They are divinely positioned by God for a course. Nothing else is important to them than getting the task done. Not even their lives. A young girl was taken captive by the king of Syria. Fate had her serve Namaan’s wife as waitress. Her service however exceeded waiting on Mrs. Naaman. She discovered her mission in the captain’s house. She was the healing channel to the man’s leprosy (2 Kings 5:1-15). I wonder how this young girl was able to know Elisha too well to the point of convincing her mistress of the prophet’s ability to heal her husband of his leprosy. She was brought into Syria as a young girl but her understanding was great. She accomplished her mission and left the scene.

Heaven will be full of surprises. Silent labourers whose names are not heard or mentioned in the Bible will constitute the highest number. No appellation attached to their identities yet, they are known to God. The end-time Christians ought to tremble at this. Our era is characterized with acquisition. We acquire so much that our course is overtaken by mundane things. We believe that success is in the title or chains of degrees acquired. Here are the slaves who life was miserable at as it were, but they were not beclouded. In slavery they still fulfill their course. Many of us left undone God’s mandate for our lives because no one applauds our effort. Many more are quiet because others take credit for their inventions. Our concern is no longer that God takes the glory. Every man on the planet earth is on a mission. Whose course we promote determines where eternity will be spent. Grave accommodates no work. Be at your father’s business while it is day, night comes when no man shall wok.
