WHAT IS THE BIBLE? (Part 2)

We looked at the origin of the scriptures (or the Bible as a whole), from the writings of Peter and Paul in the last piece. Now, let us look at what Jesus said about the scriptures: John 5:39 (The Message);

“You have your heads in your Bibles constantly because you think you’ll find eternal life there. But you miss the forest for the trees. These Scriptures are all about me” Luke 24:27 (Amplified);

“Then beginning with Moses and [throughout] all the Prophets, He went on explaining and interpreting to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning and referring to Himself.” Hebrews 10:5-7 (KJV);

5. Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:

  1. In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
  2. 7. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God”

The scriptures (and the Bible as a whole) were given to tell one story- JESUS! The Bible begins with 5 books (The Books of Moses or the Pentateuch, which include the Law). Then, the prophets- prophesying about the weakness man to please God through the law, and the coming Christ. During the days of Jesus, the scriptures had just 39 Books (Genesis to Malachi, also known as the Old Testament), because the Gospels were still in writing then. After His resurrection and ascension, the Gospels were published. And the New Testament begins with The Acts of The Apostles (Chapter 2, to be specific)… when the Spirit arrived and the promise of New Covenant was fulfilled, giving birth to the Church of Christ. The Bible (today) is the memoir of Jesus. It is an incomplete memoir, because it is being updated. The story ends when the man dies. But Jesus died and rose and He is still alive today. His story continues as He works in us and through us each day. We are living testaments. Jesus was ‘God with us’. But the Spirit is ‘God with us FOREVER’… in essence, we have another comforter in the Spirit; manifesting the life of Jesus Christ through the Church. Jesus is still alive today! The Bible may have ended in the book of Revelations, but the testimony of Christ is still being published by the Church. His memoir is still being written as we live our lives every day. We are the letters people ready today!

2 Corinthians 3:1-3 (KJV);

  1. Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?
  2. Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
  3. Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart”
