Governor Godswill Akpabio is to inaugurate a multimillion naira Methodist Church Nigeria, Ukana Ikot Ideh in Essien Udim Local Government Area on Sunday, April 19, this year.
The ultra-modern edifice has a church auditorium that accommodates 2,000 worshippers, marbled pulpit, prayer suites, choir robes store, communication studio, offices for Minister in-charge and Steward, galleries, among others.
The Rev. Utitekong Usoro in-charge of the church commended Governor Akpabio for his contribution to church development in the state particularly for the assistance given to the church building.
Rev. Usoro, who said the building of the church in the community has opened the area for more physical development, led to economic empowerment of indigenes of the village, contributed to spiritual growth of the people, enjoined the worshipers to preserve the facilities and legacy of the Methodism in the area.
The Church steward, Elder Udeme Umoren who described the church as an architectural masterpiece thanked the Chief of Personnel Staff to the Governor, Sir Etekamba Umoren, an indigene of the area for his contributions to the spread of gospel in the area, called on other prominent indigenes of the village to join hands in the development of the area.
Umoren particularly commended Governor Akpabio for providing excellent road network in the area, and prayed God Almighty to bless him and his family for contributing to meaningful development of the area.
He acknowledged that the facilities in the church would last for the next 20 years without repairs, and called on worshipers to reciprocate the gesture by preserving the facilities and in spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ to all nooks and crannies.
The Church established in 1915 by some indigenes of the area was rebuilt in 1928 and 1975 respectively while the ultra-modern one was completed in 2015.
